Evanston’s girls and boys cross country teams kept their seasons alive Saturday at the Loyola Academy regional qualifying test and will send runners in both divisions to the Class 3A Niles West Sectional qualifying meet next Saturday.

The ETHS girls advanced a full team after placing third at the regional with 82 points, trailing only Maine South (38) and New Trier (40) in the 9-team field. Also earning team qualifying spots were Glenbrook South (92) and Loyola (111).

For the Wildkits, senior Emma Dzwierzynski and freshman Samantha Steman showed the way with a 7-8 individual finish. Both standouts were clocked in 18 minutes, 45 seconds over the 3-mile course.

Also contributing for ETHS were junior Enyaeva Michelin, 16th in 19:24; freshman Eavan Norman, 23rd in 19:40; and freshman Gabrielle Horton, 28th in 20:08.
Evanston’s boys team settled for a 7th place overall finish but will be represented by four at-large runners in sophomore Julion Michelin, 26th in 16:40; junior Logan Singer, 30th in 16:44; sophomore Max Ebeling, 33rd in 16:47; and freshman James Moran, 38th in 16:58.

ETHS placed 7th in the 10-team field with 170 points. Top five advancing teams included New Trier (38), Glenbrook South (77), Loyola (89), Maine South (96) and Niles West (101).

The girls sectional race is slated to start at 10 a.m. Saturday at Niles West, with the boys to follow at 11 a.m.
