Evanston’s ’Kits, ’Cats and Kids Block Party will close Sherman Avenue to traffic for a pep rally for local football teams from 5 to 7:45 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18.
Children, teens and adults will be able to participate in games, activities and crafts, while listening to live music on stage and a DJ.
The Northwestern University and Evanston Township High School marching bands will perform at about 5:45 p.m., followed by special guests who will fire up the crowd in anticipation of the Wildcat and Wildkit football games to be played that weekend.
Food trucks will be on site and there will be a limited supply of free hotdogs. Spirit wear for both teams will also be on sale.
Parking during the event is free at the Sherman Plaza garage, with ticket validation at the City of Evanston tent.
Discounted football tickets will be sold at the Block Party to help fill Ryan Field stadium with a sea of purple on Saturday, Sept. 20, when the Wildcats play the Western Illinois University Fighting Leathernecks. The discounted tickets also may be purchased online with the code PURPLE until Sept. 19.
The Block Party is sponsored by the City of Evanston, Northwestern University, Downtown Evanston, the Evanston Chamber of Commerce, Evanston Township High School, and Evanston/Skokie School District 65.
