Evanston’s baseball team opened its annual spring break trip to Florida on a positive note, downing Medina (Ohio) 6-5 on Friday night.
The game was played in historic Hohman Stadium on the grounds of Dodgertown in Vero Beach, Fla.
Evanston broke a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning on Jack Blanchard’s bases-loaded walk, then broke the game open on Eli Otting’s rocket ground ball to third base that resulted in a throwing error and two more runs for the Wildkits.
James Allen relieved winning pitcher Dylan Mulvihill in the sixth and staved off a Medina rally. Allen recorded a check swing strikeout to end the game with runners on first and third.
The Kits came back from a 3-0 deficit in the bottom of the second with RBI hits from Charlie Maxwell (2-for-3) and Jackson Mihevc (2-for-4).
Mulvihill, a sophomore, earned his first varsity win after pitching five and two-thirds innings. He allowed 7 hits and 2 earned runs with no walks.
Evanston improved to 4-1-1 on the season and plays two games today.
