The Evanston Wildkits Varsity baseball team defeated cross conference foe Highland Park 6-4 Wednesday afternoon in Highland Park to open its conference season.
The Kits fell behind 2-0 after 3 innings but tied the game 2-2 on Eli Otting’s monster home run to left field.
Otting had a huge day at the plate going 3 for 4 with a double and home run. Joe Franke’s single in the fifth inning gave Evanston a 3-2 lead. The Kits scored two more insurance runs in the seventh to take a 6-2 lead.
The Giants made it interesting with two runs in the bottom of the seventh but the Kits held on for the victory.
Russell Snapp and Dylan Mulvihill were solid on the mound for the Kits. Snapp earned the victory and pitched five strong innings surrendering five hits and two runs. Mulvihill pitched the final two innings for the save.
Evanston moves its record to 10-2-1 and plays another cross-conference game today at home against Glenbrook North. First pitch is at 4:45 p,m.
