Lake Bluff man charged with leaving accident scene

Evanston Police say an 82-year-old Lake Bluff man driving a 1997 Jaguar hit three parked cars in the 1600 block of Central Street about 9 p.m. Monday.

Police Cmdr. Jay Parrott says that after the accident a police officer was talking to the Jaguar driver, Charles McKiel, in his squad car when McKiel got out of the squad car, returned to his own car and tried to drive off — again hitting the same cars he'd initially struck — despite having a broken axle on his car.

McKiel was taken into custody, and Parrott says he's now facing charges of leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving and disobeying police.

Details on damage to the other cars wasn't immediately available this morning.
