Evanston and Chicago firefighters searched Lake Michigan off Clark Street Beach on Saturday evening for a windsurfer who apparently disappeared.

EFD Shift Chief Tim Migon told Evanston Now that there was a sighting of the individual around 5 p.m., and the person kept drifting off to the east.

A fire/rescue boat was put in the lake, but did not find anyone.

Migon said it’s possible the windsurfer made it out of the lake safely, but first responders were checking the waters just in case.

The Chicago Fire Department helicopter was brought in, and, as of around 8 p.m., rescuers were waiting for a Coast Guard boat to come from Kenosha.

Update 11 a.m. 4/24/22: The Coast Guard called off its search shortly after midnight and a Evanston Police this morning said no one had been found.
