U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky is scheduled to discuss federal affordable housing efforts at the annual meeting of the Citizens’ Lighthouse Community Land Trust at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 17

The group will elect board members and officers during the session at St. Nicholas Church, 806 Ridge Ave. in Evanston. The meeting is free and open to the public.

Other scheduled speakers include Bob Palmer, Policy Director for Housing Action Illinois and State Rep. Julie Hamos.

The group’s executive director, Wilfred Gadsden, says members will also discuss “our plans and ideas for up-coming affordable housing efforts.”

The land trust is a membership-based non-profit corporation organized to develop affordable housing options in Evanston.

Gadsden says, “We expect that recent federal funds will provide additional opportunities for moderate-income families to own their homes.”
