A full complement of Evanston public works crews are out plowing and salting streets this morning after snow started falling around 4:30 a.m.

Assistant Public Works Director James Maiworm says that by shortly after 8 a.m. about two inches had accumulated on grassy areas and about one on pavement, following a heavy burst of snow around 6 a.m..

The snow is expected to taper off to flurries around 10:30 a.m., Maiworm says, and total accumulations are expected to be around 1.5 inches on pavement and two two three inches on grass. That’s about twice what had been forecast before the storm began.

The rest of the week is expected to be warm with rain possible, and no parking restrictions are expected.
