An Evanston Public Library children’s librarian, Gigi Galich, who was critically injured when the bicycle she was riding collided with a motorcycle in front of the library Monday morning, has died.
Galich, 55, who lived in Evanston, was riding to work at the library when she turned out of the bike lane on the south side of Church Street to cross over to the library and was struck by the motorcycle.
Police and city officials didn’t announce that she was the person injured in the crash until after her death this morning.
Library Director Karen Danczak Lyons said Galich had “been an important part of our library family since she joined us in 1976 as a Library Page.”
“Over the years,” Danczak Lyons added, “she has continued to contribute to Evanston’s residents of all ages through her enthusiastic and creative work in the Children’s Services Department at the Main Library.
Galich had earned a master’s degree in library and information science and was promoted to a Librarian I position last November.
“Gigi was energetic, dedicated and passionate. She will be greatly missed. Her work will live on through the many, many children who learned to love reading and coming to the library for books, crafts, stories and fun,” Danczak Lyons said.
Information on funeral arrangements was not yet available this morning.
