The Evanston Public Library plans to launch a literary blog, the “Book Bird,” next month by librarian Betsy Bird that it hopes will help position the city as a literary hub.

The blog will be accessible, starting Jan. 5, on the library’s website.

In a news release, the library said that “Bird hopes to bring national attention to the library while shining a spotlight on books, authors, and literary events for the residents of Evanston.”

A former materials specialist for the New York Public Library before becoming the Evanston library’s collection development librarian, Bird started a blog that focused on children’s literature. She is also the author of three published books.

Evanston Library Director Karen Danczak Lyons said that with the launch of the new blog, “we will celebrate Evanston’s love of literature, learning, and our literary community.”
