Light Opera Works' production of "The Merry Widow" opened Friday at Cahn Auditorium in Evanston and runs through Dec. 31.
The English adaptation of a 1905 operetta in German by Franz Lehar tells the story of a rich widow, Hana Glawari, and efforts by her countrymen of the Grand Duchy of Pontevedro to find her a new Pontevedrian husband, for if she marries a foreigner, the loss of her wealth could bankrupt the country.
