Evanston city officials say light snow and flurries are currently falling in the city and will increase in intensity this afternoon.
Total snow amount today should range from a half inch to an maximum of one inch. Most of the accumulating snow should end by 10:30 p.m. with some lingering flurries and snow showers overnight.
Streets and Sanitation Superintendent James Maiworm says public works crews are on the streets applying liquid salt brine to de-ice and anti-ice the streets. Street crews will be focusing on the main snow route first. Crews will be treating downtown sidewalks and recreation centers as well.
Public works will have a crew over night to treat any additional slippery spots and to treat any residential streets that require it, Maiworm says.
