A lightning strike during a thunderstorm just before noon today shattered the chimney of a large apartment building at 619-623 Sheridan Road in Evanston sending bricks flying into the street.
A car parked around the corner from the buildng on Sheridan Square was damaged by the flying bricks, but there were no reports of injuries.

Update 4:40 p.m.: Fire Division Chief Dwight Hohl says residents of the building will be displaced while city building division personnel, a structural engineer, fire officials and the building’s management evaluate the building’s structural integrity and electrical system.
