Lightning from a severe thunderstorm rolling through Evanston set a house on fire at 2334 Forestview Road around 6 this evening.

Neighbors gathered across the street as fire crews worked to extinguish the blaze.

Initial reports said all the residents of the home managed to get out safely before the fire trucks arrived.

The fire appeared to be confined to the rear of the home, and firefighters had to cut holes in the roof as they worked to be sure the flames had been extinguished.

A fire hose snaked up the front steps of the two-story Dutch Colonial home.

Fire officials didn’t immediately have further details about the fire, which brought most of the city’s fire units to the northwest side block.
