The board of the Evanston Chamber of Commerce has named Linda Larken as the group’s executive director.

Larkin had been serving as interim executive director following the resignation of Elaine Kemna-Irish.

Board President Jim Schermerhorn said the chamber “is already off to a good start in 2017, with many events full to capacity and run well with Linda as interim executive director. We can now move at a higher speed under Linda’s continued direction.”

An eight-member search committee conducted the search to fill the position.

Larkin has been a chamber member for 12 years and previously worked as a volunteer ambassador for the group.

Larkin said, ” I look forward to working closely with our members to bring positive change to the Chamber. Success begins with listening –  we will position the Chamber to listen first to the needs of our members and then advocate for our business community.”

Larkin’s began her career at the Foote, Cone & Belding ad agency, and later became executive director of the midwest chapter of the Advertising Photographers of America (APA), working on usage rights for commercial photographers.

She co-founded Lawrence Communications, Inc., an advertising/public relations agency, where she spent 15 years spearheading all new business initiatives.

Then she expanded the client base at DHI Chicago, as vice president of account service. She most recently served as President of Cor Creative, Inc. an advertising and communications agency in Rogers Park. 

Married with one daughter, Linda and her sisters attended St. Joan of Arc and Evanston High School. Linda’s daughter attended Walker School, King Lab and Evanston High School.
