In a move that may upset plans of Evanston residents seeking new political jobs, Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan reportedly will announce later today that she will run for re-election, rather than seeking higher office.

The Chicago Tribune and other media report that Madigan’s decision has stunned other state politicians who expected her to try to win election as governor or U.S. senator.

Two Evanston residents, Patrick Keenan-Devlin and Jeff Smith have already announced plans to run for the state house seat now held by Evanstonian Julie Hamos, on the assumption that Hamos would seek to succeed Madigan as attorney general.

Bill Smith is the editor and publisher of Evanston Now.
