Evanston police say burglars slipped into nine unlocked cars late Sunday night or early this morning in an area of about four blocks north and west of the Civic Center.

The incidents happened in the 1200 block of Noyes Street and the 1100 and 1200 blocks of Grant Street in the 7th Ward and the 2200 block of Asbury Avenue and the 1300 block of Leonard Place in the 5th Ward.

The thieves stole cash from some of the cars but were apparently unable to find anything of value after ransacking the interior of several others.

The vehicles hit ranged from a 1995 Jeep to a 2007 Nissan.

In a separate incident Sunday morning in the 1800 block of Dodge Avenue, the owner of another unlocked car lost a laptop computer to a burglar.
