Evanstonians with fond memories of the New Year’s Eve “First Night” celebration that used to happen here plan to meet Wednesday night at the Civic Center to lay plans for an effort to bring it back.

Organizer Emily Guthrie sais she’s had phone calls and messages of support since she first floated the idea recently.

She says ten people have already indicated an interest in participating on a board to revive the annual celebration that featured musical performances and other events and figures she needs about another 15 people to pull it off.

She says the group will likely have to raise about $75,000 to fund the project and is shooting for reviving the event in time to cap off the city’s sesquicentennial celebration with a revival on Dec. 31, 2013.

If you’re interested, the meeting is planned for 7 p.m. Wednesday in room 2403 at the Civic Center.
