LINK card holders who use their LINK dollars to buy healthy foods at the downtown Evanston Saturday farmers market are now eligible to double their buying power.

A grant to the Friends of Evanston Farmers Markets from NorthShore University HealthSystem is providing a 100 match match for LINK card users from now until the end of the market in early November.

This means a LINK card user requesting $30 will get $60 to spend. More information is available at the market website.

Free parking is available for market patrons in the Maple Street parking garage. Market hours are 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays through Nov. 5.

  1. Good news

This is just the sort of thing that we need more of in these economic times.   Farmers Markets are too often out of reach for many of the folks on the LINK system who depend on that system and don't have any available cash for any food that isn't covered. Healthy eating is a real problem in our country – so called 'the land of plenty'.  Kudos to the NorthShore University Health System and the Friends of Evanston Farmers Markets.
