Burglaries and thefts in Evanston are down a significant amount compared with last year, Evanston police reported today.
Burglaries are down for the first six months of 2018 by 41 percent, compared to 2017. There were 180 burglaries in the first six months of 2017 and there have only been 107 in the first six months of 2018.
There was also a reduction in thefts. There were 655 thefts for the first six months of 2017, compared with 524 for the first six months of 2018, a 20 percent drop. Burglaries and thefts account for more than 80 percent of Evanston’s major crimes.

There’s been one homicide so far this year in Evanston.
Two men have been charged in connection with that death.
There were no homicides in Evanston during the first six months of 2017, but there was one later in the year.
In 2016 the city had two homicides.
