Evanston police say they’ve arrested a man who was spotted stealing packages that had been delivered to condominium buildings on Hinman Avenue.

Police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan says that about 7 p.m. Monday officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of Hinman after the manager of a condominium building observed a man he didn’t recognize in the building placing packages from a mail delivery into his backpack.

The manager confronted the subject as he left the building, but the offender fled on foot.

Dugan says officers spotted a man matching the description of the thief at Chicago Avenue and Davis Street and took him into custody.

Dugan says several packages which that had been delivered to the building in the 1500 block of Hinman as well as to another condominium building in the 900 block of Hinman were recovered from the man’s backpack.

The packages contained photographic film, clothing and an umbrella.

Dugan says the man, Angel Marquez, 35, of 6529 N. Ashland in Chicago, now has been charged with two felony counts of burglary
