A 23-year-old Evanston man has been charged with robbing the Radio Shack store in the Dempster Plaza shopping center Sunday.

Poilice Cmdr. Jay Parrott says officers called to the store learned that a man had displayed a knife and made threatening statements to a store clerk before fleeing the scene with a pre-paid cell phone.

Officers on patrol in the area spotted a man matching the suspects description in the 1800 block of Crain Street and Parrott says were able to recover the stolen phone and the knife used in the robbery from the suspect, who also was positively identified as the robber by the victim.

Dandre D. Nesbitt, 23, of 1807 Monroe St. now faces armed robbery charges. He’s due in court at 9 a.m. on Aug. 22.
