Evanston police say a 29-year-old Chicago man was shot at the intersection of Chicago Avenue and Howard Street just before midnight Sunday.

Cmdr. Ryan Glew says police received multiple calls to 911 of shots fired, alerting them to the incident. Glew says the victim was transported to an area hospital by Fire Department paramedics and that he’s expected to survive his injuries.

As of 1 a.m. the Howard-Chicago intersection was expect to remain shut down to traffic for several hours as police continued to investigate the shooting.

It was the second shooting incident in the city in less than five hours. In the earlier incident, one person was killed and four others wounded in gunfire on Green Bay Road near Asbury Avenue.
