Evanston police say a man was shot in the left foot late Tuesday afternoon in the alley between the 1000 blocks of Howard and Dobson Streets.

The victim told police he’d made a purchase at the gas station at the corner of Howard and Ridge when two men in a dark car followed him from the station into the alley and yelled “that’s him” just before shooting him.

The victim made his way back to the gas station where an Evanston police officer on patrol nearby who’d heard the shots found him sitting on the gas station floor.

The victim told police he suspected the incident may have been related to his winning $500 while gambling in Evanston last summer.

Police Commander James Elliot said no suspects are in custody but police are continuing to investigate the incident.
