A 28-year-old Evanston man was shot early this morning in the 1700 block of Brown Avenue.

Police Cmdr. Tom Guenther says officers responding to a report of shots fired in the area about 3:08 a.m. found several people out on the street who gave them varying accounts of what had happened.

As officers were interviewing those men, the victim walked up to them, and the police determined he’d been shot once in the upper abdomen.

Fire Department paramedics were called to the scene and they transported the victim to a local hospital where he was treated for his injuries.

Guenther says police are still investigating to determine what led up to the shooting and who was responsible.
