Evanston police are investigating an incident in which a Chicago man was shot in the leg outside the St. Francis Hospital emergency room.

Officers responding to seveal calls reporting shots fired in the area of the 800 block of Austin Steet about 5:20 p.m. Sunday found the 19-year-old victim at the base of the emergency room ramp suffering from two gunshot wounds to the leg.

Officers got a description of suspects in the shooting and searched the area without success.

Police detectives are investigating the incident as possibly gang related and continue to follow up on leads provided by the victim and witnesses, as well as review and process recovered evidence. At this time no one is in custody.

The victim’s wounds are not believed to be life-threatening and he’s being treated at the hospital.
