Evanston police say a young man was shot to death in the 1400 block of Dodge Avenue about 10 p.m. Thursday.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Marcus Davis, 23, of the 1700 block of Payne St., who was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:25 p.m. of multiple gunshot wounds.

Police Commander Tom Guenther says Davis had had his car serviced at Smitty’s Garage at 1422 Dodge and was backing it out of the service drive when a lone gunman ran up to the driver’s side window of the car and started shooting.

The gunman fled the scene eastbound on foot. A female passenger in the car escaped injury.

Guenther says no suspects are in custody and Evanston police, with the assistance of the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force, are actively investigating the case. Any citizens having information about this incident are encouraged to call the Evanston Police Department’s Detective Bureau at 847-866-5040.
