Evanston Police say a large crew of looters invaded the Best Buy at 2301 Howard St. around 7 o’clock this evening.

Police responding to the scene managed to take about a half dozen into custody but many others reportedly escaped.

One customer at the Best Buy had his car stolen by looters who were fleeing the scene.

The looters broke out the glass in the entrance doors to the store and a boardup company was called to respond to the scene.

There have been scattered reports of other organized shoplifting and looting events in the City of Chicago and some other suburbs during the day today.

Update 8:25 p.m.: Shortly after 8 p.m., police started receiving multiple calls of looters at the Walgreens store at 2100 Green Bay Road. Responding officers found the entrance doors broken in but no shoplifters on the scene. Witnesses told them that a group of eight to 10 juveniles had been involved in that incident.
