Evanston Mayor Steve Hagerty reportedly has asked Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart to investigate who leaked a confidential report to the City Council regarding alleged misconduct by City Clerk Devon Reid.

WGN Television reports that Hagerty’s request asks Dart to find out whether members of the City Council or city staff or outside attorneys hired by the city to investigate Reid’s conduct leaked the material which was then published on a former city council candidate’s website.

Hagerty says evidence collected in the investigation would be turned over to the state’s attorney, which could lead to prosecution of the person responsible for the leak.

He says the leak violated the privacy rights of a city employee involved in the dispute over Reid’s behavior.
