Evanston Mayor Steve Hagerty was on the platform at the Davis Street Purple Line station this afternoon with kids and their parents, all waiting for the CTA holiday train to pull in bringing Santa on a visit to town.

When the fully decked out train arrived at the station,

the mayor and the children got to say hello to Santa, who arrived in his sleigh aboard an open car attached to the train.

Then they all got to hop aboard, though not on Santa’s car, and road one of the enclosed cars decked out with candy-cane wraps on the grab bars and holiday garland hung from the walls.

And Santa’s elves were on hand to greet riders with plenty of candy canes for good boys and girls.

The holiday train will run on the Purple Line again on Saturday and next Thursday. Full schedule information is available on the CTA website.
