Construction of the addition to the north end of The Merion in the 1600 block of Chicago Avenue is getting underway, with construction barricades scheduled to go up on Wednesday.

City officials say a temporary traffic control plan will be in effect on the block between Davis and Church streets from Wednesday through the end of the year.

Temporary fencing is going up at the perimeter of the site along with concrete jersey barriers on Chicago Avenue and directional signage for pedestrian and auto traffic.

Chicago Avenue will remain open in both directions. But there will be a few lane shifts daily. Flaggers will be on site to assist pedestrians and drivers traveling through the area during work hours.

Drivers are asked to use extreme caution when entering the area in either direction because of the presence of workers and heavy equipment.

Updates on the project will be available online or by calling 847-448-4311.
