Evanston is expected to see a mix of wintery weather conditions on New Year’s Day.

Edgar Cano of the city’s public works agency says the storm will start with freezing rain and sleet about 10 a.m. Friday and then transition to snow around 8 p.m. Friday, with the snow continuing through around 4 a.m. Saturday.

Cano says we could get as much as 0.1 inch of freezing rain, up to 0.6 inches of sleet and as much as 2.5 inches of snow.

That’s a little less than the amounts forecast for the Chicago metro area as a whole by the National Weather Service.

Cano says city crews have been put on alert and will be ready to respond to the storm as needed.
