Update 8:41 p.m.: Train service on the Metra Union Pacific North Line through Evanston was blocked earlier this evening.

An Evanston Now reader reports the problem was caused by a large car-hauling truck that got stuck trying to cross the tracks at Central Avenue in Wilmette.

Metra reports that three trains — #359, #358 and #356 — were affected by the track blockage and were delayed for an hour or longer.

The crossing at Central Avenue is posted with warning signs about low clearance there as the track descends from its elevated route through Evanston to ground level for travel further north.
