Evanston police and fire units are on the scene on Lake Street near Sherman Avenue where a Metra train outbound from the Loop struck a pedestrian around 5 p.m. this evening.
Metra says Metra tickets will be honored on the CTA Red, Brown and Purple lines because of the accident.
At last report inbound and outbound trains were still stopped by the accident.
The train that struck the pedestrian, #337, had been scheduled to arrive in Highland Park at 5:10 p.m. and Metra at 6:15 p.m. said it’s unclear when the train will be able to resume its run.
Metra says delays after a pedestrian or vehicle accident typically last two to three hours.
Update 5:40 a.m. 9/17/19: Evanston police say the pedestrian, a male in his 30s, was killed. Further information on his identity wasn’t immediately available.
