Evanston police reported that three burglars broke a glass door at Virag Jewelers, in the 700 block of Main Street, a little before midnight yesterday and made off with an estimated $9 thousand in jewelry from the store’s display cases.

Cmrd. Joseph Dugan said the trio ran southbound on Custer Avenue, dropping a necklace along the way that was retrieved in the 800 block of Custer. The canine corps was brought to the scene to no avail, Dugan said.

A witness and security video captured images of three black males, including one that was about 5-feet-7-inches tall and weighing about 120 pounds.

Police continued the investigation Friday.
