Evanston’s likely to get another brewery, and to help you work off that beer belly, a new fitness center is holding its grand opening Wednesday.

Orangetheory Fitness recently opened at 2800 Central St., and the mayor and other city officials are expected to turn out at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday for a ribbon cutting.

The chain, with outposts in more than two dozen states, including three others in Illinois, features what the company website describes as “60-minute workout sessions split into intervals of cardiovascular and strength training with heart rate monitors to track intensity and maximize metabolic burn.”

Thursday the Liquor Control Board is scheduled to review a license application from Sketchbook Brewing Company to open a craft brewery in the Leffingwell Building at 825 Chicago Ave.

Leffingwell is a business incubator and in line with the hot trend in nanotechnology research at Northwestern University, Sketchbook’s founders are calling their business a “nano-brewery.” They’re hoping to open around June.

They’ll be joining on Evanston’s hot micro-brewery scene the Peckish Pig brew pub which is holding its grand opening Thursday, Temperance Brewery that opened last fall and the Smylie Bros. brew pub now under construction.

Meanwhile, on a different beverage front, the Zoning Board of Appeals tonight is scheduled to review a request from Starbucks to take over the shuttered Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant at Dempster Street and Dodge Avenue.
