Lotta and Mikael Bengtsson, the owners of Newport Coffee House in Bannockburn, have filed plans with the City of Evanston to open a second location in the vacant retail space at 622 Davis St.

That spot until last June was the home of Cheesie’s Pub & Grub, which had opened in October 2012.

Newport Coffee has been in business since 1992, but was purchased by the Bengtssons in 2017.

On the Newport website, Lotta Bengtsson says that she started her first coffee shop in Stockholm, Sweden, and wants to continue Newport’s reputation for roasting and serving specialty coffee.

No word yet on an opening date for the Newport Coffee House in Evanston, which will need city approval for the carry-out restaurant special use.

The number of coffee shops in the immediate vicinity shrank by one recently with the closing of Kafein, at 1621 Chicago Ave.
