The Evanston150 Steering Committee agreed today to expand its Selection Jury criteria to include Evanston business owners, and individuals attending college or employed in Evanston.

The original guidelines required applicants to be residents of Evanston or Skokie/Evanston age 15 and over.

Fifteen to 20 applicants will be chosen in a blind review process by the Evanston150 Steering Committee.

Applications are being accepted now through the June 1 application deadline. Selection Jury members will be notified on June 30 of their appointment.

“The Selection Jury application deadline is now just three weeks away, and we’d like to see many more applications come in,” explained Steering Committee Member Jay Lytle.

“We agreed it was important to invite those who study, work and own businesses in Evanston to apply as they are key stakeholders in the community. Idea submissions are encouraged from those who live, work and study in Evanston, and this revised selection jury guideline is consistent with that philosophy.”

The Evanston150 Selection Jury is responsible for reviewing the 2,013 or more ideas submitted by community members and organizations now through midnight on July 31. The Selection Jury will work together to select the top 100 ideas to present to the community. The entire community is invited to turn out for a public vote in early October to further narrow down the 100 ideas to 30.

On November 10, the Selection Jury will announce the final 10 ideas promising broad support and long lasting impact to the community. Once the ideas have been announced, community members and organizations are invited to collaborate, adopt projects, and start implementing the ideas.

The Evanston150 steering committee hopes to see many projects underway and some completed by the 2013 celebration of Evanston’s 150 years.

Interested applicants will find Selection Jury applications on the Evanston150 website. Application forms are also available at the Evanston Public Library, 1703 Orrington Ave., and at the Downtown Evanston offices at 820 Davis Street, Suite 151.
