Evanston aldermen tonight are scheduled to approve four new sidewalk cafes for downtown restaurants.

  • Tapas Barcelona, 1619 Chicago Ave., which lost its former private patio seating when construction began for expansion of The Merion, is asking for 36 seats at 18 tables. To keep the minimum city requirement of six feet of sidewalk clear, the plan will require elimination of some planting beds in the cafe area.
  • Freshii, 1596 Sherman Ave., the new restaurant that replaced Argo Tea, is seeking seating for 30 at 11 tables. Freshii’s plan also calls for paving some existing planting beds.
  • Just around the corner from Freshii, at Boltwood, 804 Davis St., the owners are seeking approval for a sidewalk cafe that would seat 28 customers at seven picnic tables.
  • Patisserie Coralie, 600 Davis St., is seeking to place seating for 10 at five tables along its Chicago Avenue frontage.

The plans all have been reviewed by city staff, which is recommending their approval.
