Temperatures are expected to dip just below freezing tonight in Evanston and so public works crews are spreading a light coat of salt to the streets to prevent possible icy spots.

Assistant Public Works Director James Maiworm says the latest forecast for the storm expected Saturday night and Saturday morning shows the main impact to the north of us — so we could get just a little freezing rain starting around 7 p.m. changing to snow around 3 a.m. Sunday and ending by 9 a.m.

If that forecast turns out to be accurate, total snow accumulation coud be just one-half to one inch.

But he cautions that changes to the forecast are likely and says public works crews are prepared to respond it it does change.
