Evanston officials say a motorcyclist escaped from an accident on Ridge Avenue about 5 p.m. today with only minor injuries.

Police Cmdr. Jay Parrott says the accident happened in the 1800 block of Ridge and the motorcycle was traveling at a very low speed, perhaps 10 miles an hour, when it happened.

Fire Division Chief Dwight Hohl says the cyclist, a man in his 50s, suffered superficial cuts and scrapes and was taken to Evanston Hospital as a precaution.

Parrott says the cyclist was traveling southbound on Ridge when he tried to change lanes, didn’t notice the curb separating the lanes, and hit it.
