Evanston/Skokie School District 65 Superintendent Hardy Murphy provided additional information about school safety procedures in a letter this week to parents.

Here is a text of what he said in his letter:

“I assure you that the front entry at each school building is equipped with security cameras, all schools have procedures that include buzz-in entry for visitors who are to report to the main office, and principals have been reminded to adhere to these procedures that are designed to help keep schools safe.

“Throughout the year, our schools will continue to practice safety drills to help keep everyone familiar with what to do in case of an emergency. And, the district will continue to review and improve safety procedures and systems with recommendations from local first responders and input from building staff.

“Your assistance in complying with visitor procedures is important and appreciated.”

Murphy noted that he had written to parents shortly after the school shootings in Newtown, Conn., last month, but noted that some parents had requested additional information specific to their individual schools.
