Peter Braithwaite was sworn in Monday night as Evanston’s new 2nd Ward alderman.

City Council members confirmed Braithwaite’s selection by Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl to replace Lionel Jean-Baptiste who resigned from the council last month to accept appointment as a circuit court judge.

Braithwaite, who declined immediate comment on his goals for the ward, said he plans to meet with local residents over the next few weeks to learn about their priorities and will hold a ward meeting at the Levy Center, 300 Dodge Ave., at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 14.
