A business that rents space to independent beauty stylists plans to open in the long-vacant former Buffalo Wild Wings site at 1741 Maple Ave. in Evanston’s Church Street Plaza development.

Salon Lofts was founded in 2003 in Columbus, Ohio, and has grown to now have more than 100 locations in 18 metro areas. It has 10 existing sites in the Chicago area and has another Chicago location under construction in addition to the one here in Evanston.

The Salon Lofts rents fully equipped mini-salon spaces and provides client booking software and marketing services.

Traditional beauty salons often rent individual chairs to stylists and the transition to an independent operation can be challenging. Salon Lofts last year prevailed in a lawsuit in which a traditional salon owner in North Carolina sued, claiming Salon Lofts had engaged in unfair business practices by luring away some of its stylists.

  1. Great News!

I have a relative who operates out of a Salon Loft, and it’s been the best thing that ever happened to her. She’s doing so much better financially, professionally, and feels such a sense of pride with her business. This is a great business to welcome to Evanston!
