Crews worked through the night Saturday to complete the installation of the new CTA viaduct across Church Street in downtown Evanston.

After demolishing the century-old concrete viaduct starting Friday night, the workers positioned new concrete viaduct piers atop caissons prepared in the weeks leading up to the big move. Then they rolled the new steel viaduct into place and worked to secure it in position.

The work schedule calls for laying track across the viaduct and having things ready for the Purple Line trains ready to roll again by Monday morning’s rush hour.
