Evanston’s Health Department says the seven-day average of COVID-19 cases in the city is now running at more than 93 cases per day — compared to just 28 cases a day a week ago.

While the daily case count has dropped to 90 on Monday from a record 161 last Friday the surge in cases has led local hospitals to limit visitors as they deal with a surge of COVID patients.

No new COVID deaths among Evanstonians have been reported by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office since last Tuesday and the city Health Department’s COVID death count now stands at 128.

Evanston Township High School has switched to remote learning for this week and the Evanston City Council has decided to gather only virtually for Monday night’s special meeting.
