A husband and wife team of dentists has opened a new dental practice at the Evanston Plaza shopping center and will get a ribbon-cutting visit from the mayor this week.

Evanston Township High School alum Dr. Jazmine Daye Dillard says the new office fulfills a long-time dream to open a orthodontic and pediatric dental practice in her home town with her husband and partner, Dr. Melvin L. Dillard III.

The newly remodeled 2,400 square foot Dental Art Specialists office has flat-screen TVs and wi-fi for patients and their parents.

“I am a proud native of Evanston and it gives me great pleasure to work in the community that was so instrumental in making me the doctor I am today,” said Dr. Jazmine Dillard. After graduating from ETHS, she attended Xavier University of Louisiana and received her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree and a certificate in pediatric dentistry from the University of Illinois at Chicago. “Every child is different and I love encountering the unique personalities of each one.”

“Creating magnificent smiles is not only my job, but also my passion,” said Dr. Melvin Dillard, an orthodontist who provides a wide variety of orthodontic treatment options for adolescent and adult patients. Correcting misaligned teeth, as well as a patient’s bite, he said, not only leads to better oral health, but also builds confidence and self-esteem.

The ribbon cutting with Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl and representatives from the Evanton Chamber of Commerce, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 2.
