Starting this afternoon Evanston residents will have a new option for ice skating this winter.
Northwestern University is opening a rink on the east lawn of the Norris University.
The Daily Northwestern reports that the rink will be open to Evanston residents, though they’ll have to bring their own skates. Only students, university employees and their guests will be able to rent skates at the rink.
A university official says it’s the first outdoor rink on campus and more than a decade. University President Morton Schapiro reportedly decided to have the rink built after a student pointed out that the school had had a long tradition of outdoor ice skating in the years before World War II.
The City of Evanston operates three outdoor rinks which have drawn mixed reviews from residents.

That is really nice… I hope the University will reconsider renting skates to the public.

It does rent skates to the public, to my knowledge.
