Michael Allen has been appointed the new principal of Oakton Elementary School in Evanston District 65 effective immediately.

Allen previously served as a middle school principal in Country Club Hills School District 160.

He was the principal of Gwendolyn Brooks Middle School in Harvey for three years and assistant principal of curriculum and instruction in Waukegan and in East Chicago, Indiana, for four years.

He also has experience as an elementary teacher and principal.

Allen has a doctorate in administration and supervision from Loyola University, post master’s certification in educational leadership from Chicago State University, a master’s in elementary education and a bachelor’s in sociology, both from Valparaiso University.

“I am confident that Michael Allen will be a strong leader for the Oakton community and a great asset to our school leadership team,” Superintendent Paul Goren said at Monday’s school board meeting.

“He is looking forward to joining our team and is excited about working closely with district leadership and the entire staff at Oakton to ensure a smooth transition for the start of our new school year,” Goren added.
