New principal named for St. A’s school

The assistant principal at St. Paul of the Cross school in Park Ridge, Carol McClay, has been named principal of Evanston’s St. Athanasius School, effective with the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year.

“Our prayers have been answered. We are thrilled to welcome Mrs. McClay to the St. A’s family,” said pastor Father Hernan Cuevas. “Our selection committee was most impressed with her management experience, time in the classroom, and boundless energy.”

McClay brings to St. A’s more than 16 years of experience in Chicago Archdiocese schools.

For the past six years, she has been assistant principal at the Park Ridge school, where she was also coordinator for Early Childhood programs.

As assistant principal, her primary administrative responsibilities included day-to-day management of faculty and students in grades 5-8.

As Coordinator for Early Childhood, she restructured the admissions process and established a toddler program for caregivers and children who were not yet school age.

Prior to St. Paul’s, she served as a 2nd grade teacher and an assistant principal at multiple schools throughout the Archdiocese.

Father Cuevas also announced that Mary Quish will continue to serve as St. A’s assistant principal.
